Have you ever noticed where your food comes from? I've been hearing a lot about the pet food that came from China tainted with poison that kills dogs and cats. Last night I heard on the radio that there's toothpaste out there that's tainted with anti-freeze, coincidentally also made in China. Our US government says it's okay, that there's not much in it. Isn't ANY antifreeze too much? And there's also toys coming over made with lead paint!! Canned fruit comes from Malaysia and Indonesia, the bananas I bought today are from Columbia, grapes from Mexico and canned beans from Canada. I don't have any problem with these countries but the US grows and produces stuff still, doesn't it? And until there's some regulation as to the quality of goods imported, I'm boycotting as much food and products as I can that come from outside the US. What about you - have you noticed where your food and goods come from? Does it bother you as much as it bothers me?

What is the most disgusting food/drink you have eaten/drunk? Once I ate cow brains and lungs in Indonesia - I began to vomit immediately -, drink is grapefruit juice. Yeah those brains and lungs didn't look like brains and lungs so I just tried it. It tasted mwoah, not ''suspicious'', but a little bit weird - so it's was like OK - but after they told me what those were I got an extremely BAD feeling inside my belly. HEHEH. I vomitted for almost two weeks I think. They should give me $50.000 like in Fear Factor for eating those things.

Please help: Looking for Chinese and Indian herbs (& herbalist) in Indonesia? Hi, I will be traveling for three months through SE Asia, including Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Indonesia starting in mid-September. I consume many herbal dietary supplements for my health, but because of possilbe complications getting them through customs (the herbs come in bulk with no original packaging per se), it looks like I might have to find these Chinese and Indian (Ayurvedic) herbs in each respective destination. So, I'm asking about Indonesia here---any city, but especially in bigger ones like Jakarta or somwhere in Bali. Do you know of any herbalists or herbal shops which have Chinese and Indian herbs, especially encapsulated herbs? Health-food stores? (I'm looking for largest shops, as they are more likely to have the specific herbs I need.) Any names or search tips on the internet would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It seems like a long trip, but I hope I can fill those days doing great things in Jakarta. And how about the food. I like spicy stuff, and I heard that the food in Indonesia is excellent. Can I find halal food easily there? Or do I have to be very careful while choosing restaurants? Any extra information will be very much appreciated. Thanx.

Muslim, Do you only buy Halal labeled food? I am in Indonesia, and most people in here is Muslim but unfortunately not all of Muslims in Indonesia think it's important to only choose Halal certificated food Many Muslims in here, but to make halal certification is not a must. Food companies can choose, will they make halal certificate to their products or not. And companies should spend much money to get halal certificate I think All companies don't wanna get lost. They will think, Why should make halal certificate in Indonesia but Muslims in Indonesia don't think it's important? Anyone from Indonesia can help me to campaign to only choose halal certificated food? So All food companies will make halal certificate to their products

Carbon footprint on food. What about objects? The UK government is considering the carbon footprint on food, i.e. miles to transport from producer to retailer. They expect consummers to buy local instead of importations. What about the objects? As most of the plastic components are made in China and electronic components in Indonesia, would you still buy the last toy to your child or purchase electronic products (e.g. screens, computers, games, etc.)?

Food Crisis Starts Eclipsing Climate Change Worries, Gore has no answers.? Food Crisis Starts Eclipsing Climate Change Worries Gore Ducks, as a Backlash Builds Against Biofuels With prices for rice, wheat, and corn soaring, food-related unrest has broken out in places such as Haiti, Indonesia, and Afghanistan. Several countries have blocked the export of grain. There is even talk that governments could fall if they cannot bring food costs down. One factor being blamed for the price hikes is the use of government subsidies to promote the use of corn for ethanol production. An estimated 30% of America’s corn crop now goes to fuel, not food. Mr. Senauer said climate change advocates, such as Vice President Gore, need to distance themselves from ethanol to avoid tarnishing the effort against global warming. “Crop-based biofuels are not part of the solution. Mr. Gore was not available for an interview yesterday on the food crisis, according to his spokeswoman. A spokesman for Mr. Gore’s public campaign to address climate change, declined comment.

Did I breathe in toxic mold while staying in Indonesia? Seen Specialists but have been sick for 17months..? Hi, desperate for ANY info: I went to Indonesia on a research project as a fit healthy 29year July 2005, since then for the last 17months i've been very sick, respiratory problems,v extreme weightloss, cough etc. (The symptoms started after both my partner and I had eaten contaminated food we were both very ill and weak. The room we stayed in for 2 months absolutely stank of mold from constant air conditioner.) Because of breathing problems & had to fly back and went to two Respiratory Specialists, who said it 's probably a viral infection that will just go away...as the bloodtests didn't show much; showed i had an infection, & Glandular Fever in past..? X-rays showed "hyper inflated lung fields" but test for asthma showed i didn't have it (eventhough i was diagnosed as a teenager). A year later, I still coughed so much mucus, i have constant back drip, get tired and full of mucus just walking a few blocks, my nose and throat is permanently blocked. Could it be mold related?

are u interested to come in this food festival? this afternoon me and my siblings went to sort of food festival in our city as a part of marketing in this (new) mall. it was so cheap, only cost rp 20.000/indonesian rupiah (equal to US$2) for everything u can order/eat from 15 boths but not including the drink. i ate rice with indonesian style of fried chicken with traditional chilly and some other chinese food. do u think this is a good marketing of this mall? and luckily the food was delicious too. (btw, i'm in the city of surabaya in indonesia, u could look it up from satellite/map in google earth to be sure where it located). have a great weekend, everybody! i am talking about the marketing of the mall, not the food/restaurant, cause i think the mall that pay the food/restaruant. for rainbow, i also like nasi lemak hehe. and for boomrat, u mean u going to indonesia on february next year?
Are food riots in Haiti the start of a disturbing trend? Analysts have predicted that rising food costs would cause civil unrest, starting in the very least developed countries and progressively moving along to more developed countries. As most know Haiti is one of the least developed nations in the world.... http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080409/ap_on_re_la_am_ca/haiti_food_protests Food riots have also been reported this year in Mexico, India, Morocco, Egypt, China, Pakistan, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Italy, Austria, Hungary, Uzbekistan, Indonesia, Yemen, Guinea, Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Mauritania and Senegal. Is this a disturbing trend? What the heck does global warming theory have to do with food prices? My god man, I know you aren't that bright but you are taking the cake here. None of the countries mention staple food crop is corn, or are in area where corns is a viable food crop. The staples of all the countries listed are either Rice, Wheat, or localized staple grains.
Assessing the global food crisis in one place after another? A silent tsunami which knows no borders is sweeping the world". That is how the head of the UN World Food Programme (WFP) summed up the global food shortages. It is certainly a storm that has hit with little warning and has plunged an extra 100 million people into poverty. The crisis has triggered riots in Haiti, Cameroon, Indonesia and Egypt and is deemed a dangerous threat to stability. It is not so much famine that is the worry, it is widespread misery and malnutrition. The WFP's biggest concern is for the people living on 50 cents a day who have nothing to fall back on. “For nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be food shortages and earthquakes in one place after another [and in one place after another pestilences (Luke 21:11)]. All these things are a beginning of pangs of distress. This from te BBC news this morning, What are your thoughts?
