Why is Indonesia unable to control the yearly forest fires in Indonesia ?

Forest fires occur yearly in parts of Indonesia, such as in Kalimantan and parts of Sumatra and Sulawesi. Why has the Indonesian government been unable to control the fires - although these fires are obvioulsly bad for the environment and the image of Indonesia ? First, i'm not from California, so.. i'm not interested in whatever that is happening there. and second, i'm only interested in Indonesia

  1. Because Indonesia is unable to control their own people who are clearing land for building and farming.
  2. indonesia is a 3rd world country, after all the disasters it has already been through it probably doesnt have much money to control the new fires caused....it takes a lot of machinery and man power, just look at california, even those fires are hard 2 control..even WITH all the money and technology. plus, the weather and windy conditions dont help either.
  3. By controlling forest fires, our government has caused an unnatural buildup of underbrush which has led to very unhealthy forests. Fires are a vital part of a natural cycle. Without fires, our forests become burdened by too much underbrush and small trees and disease is rampant. When fires do come, they burn so hot that all the trees are destroyed. Before we criticize Indonesia, we should look at our own pathetic attempts to control our environment IMO.
  4. It don't look like we are doing such a good job in California. It is the wind ,if the fire gets started and the wind is blowing look out it can burn down hole towns.
  5. Same goes for California ,Mexico ,South Africa ,Australia ,this is not an Indonesian exclusive
